YOU

THE CAROL ARTICLE

in December i spoke to Travis Young, former vocalist of Maryland metalcore band Carol, about WMUC, the old College Park scene and a couple bands you may know. in January it went up on the WMUC website. in spite of initial errors and ongoing formatting issues, i'm proud of it; it tracks a robust and active period for the UMD and College Park scenes.

TRAINWRECK AND COMADRE AT UMD?

this reddit thread about German hardcore band Trainwreck includes a comment alleging that Trainwreck and Comadre played at (presumably) the University of Maryland.

though these bands played together numerous times both in the USA and in Europe, ConcertArchives brings up nothing connecting them to UMD. further inquiry is necessary, so if you know anything, please reach out!

THE SHELLFEST ARTICLES

in February of 2025, Metalheads of Maryland held their first inaugural Shellfest since the club's reformation post-COVID. i wrote an article about it for WMUC, which you can read here. it's not flawless -- my editor calls Morbid Saint a thrash metal band when they're more speed metal, and "most celebrated" is kind of a vague descriptor, but it's still important documentation.

unfortunately, a few lines at the end almost threw the future of Shellfest into jeopardy. i included a note on an incident that occurred at the show, which resulted in the ejection of an individual and a call to campus police. in the fall, when it was time to start booking Shellfest II, STAMP suddenly wanted $2,000 in insurance for the show. it's the club's opinion that my article likely put Building Services on edge about having another show there.

Shellfest II was moved off-campus instead, to Clear Skies Meadery in Rockville. the Diamondback ended up publishing a long article about the festival with some very impressive photography by Sam Cohen.

i took photos as well, which you can find on my photography Instagram, but they're nowhere near this level. much love to Sam and the Diamondback team.

THE TEENAGE RIOT ARTICLE

in November of 2025, benefit bookers Teenage Riot put on a show in the Baltimore Room of STAMP. i wrote up an article about it for the Diamondback, including interviews with booker Arianna and bands Heartswings, Anesthesiac and Lagoon. nu-metal locals Seeking Samsara also played but i didn't get a chance to talk to them.

DANGER AT WMUC

under a Facebook post of some old flyers, user Rudy Enrique tells this story of booking shows at the radio station:
